Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT last year, I have met many people who believe it will change everything. By everything, they mean:
- Developers will lose their jobs because ChatGPT can write better code than most of them
- All music will be AI-generated
- Designers will struggle since Midjourney can create awesome illustrations
I think this is an overly optimistic way of thinking about AI.
Right now, I see it as a great tool in the hands of professionals who can access new technologies. Like Photoshop, FruityLoops, or any other piece of software that makes one’s job a little easier. It is not widely used outside the tech bubble, and most people have no idea how to use it effectively.
Even the name ‘ChatGPT’ sounds like you are about to run a huge collider.
Besides that, I think it has a high barrier to entry. ChatGPT, for example, is not very user-friendly (except for the audio interface, which is not very common), and it takes some time to find the best use cases in different scenarios.
This can change, and it can change pretty fast. But for now, I still think we are far from being replaced by AI.
