I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember. I enjoy paper books, audiobooks, and especially ebooks, since they’re the most convenient way for me to discover new authors.
About 12 or 13 years ago, I got my first Kindle, and it completely changed the way I consume literature. I instantly fell in love with it and read countless books on that device. But a few years later, I started working at a publishing house, which required me to read over five books a month—most of them in PDF format. Unfortunately, the Kindle wasn’t great for handling PDFs at the time. So, I sold it and switched to reading on my iPad, MacBook, and iPhone.
After leaving the publishing industry, I kept reading on my iPhone and occasionally borrowed my wife’s Kindle Paperwhite from 2014 (she prefers reading on her iPhone). That’s how things stayed until this Black Friday, when I spotted a great deal on the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition in a gorgeous raspberry color.
I hadn’t planned to upgrade.
My wife’s old Kindle still worked fine—its battery lasted for days, and it was great for reading. But since reading is one of my biggest passions, I was curious to see how much the technology had improved over the years. So, I decided to treat myself to a new Kindle.
I chose the most advanced Kindle Paperwhite because it has auto-brightness, warm light, and is waterproof—features that seem perfect for any reading device. And now, a month and nine books later, I can confidently say this upgrade was worth every penny.
I didn’t realize how much faster the new Kindle would be. The slightly larger display makes reading so much more comfortable, and PDFs are finally manageable. It’s such a joy to use that I’ve even started updating my Goodreads profile again!
If you love reading and don’t have an e-reader yet — or are still using an older one — the new Kindle Paperwhite is a game-changer. Definitely a 10 out of 10.
