I like reading books. It’s one of my favorite hobbies, and I’ve kept it for a very long time. I enjoy it so much that, at one point in my life, I even worked at a publishing house, where my main job was to read a lot of books and write many articles to promote them.
Mostly, I read non-fiction. And here’s the thing: if you’ve read a few hundred non-fiction books, you start to see patterns and can tell a good book from bulshit. But to do that, you still have to read the book (I usually give it a chance until I’m about 30% in, and if it still doesn’t impress me, I stop reading).
Another approach is to check the summary of the book. I use Blinkist for this, and here’s how I usually do it. I choose a topic I want to study or learn more about. Then I google articles and recommendations for the best books on that topic. After that, I find these books as summaries on Blinkist and read them.
This way, I get a sense of which book will give me the most knowledge I need at the moment, and then I read the full version.
In this case, book summaries are a great tool.
