I found myself in a weird situation — within just a few weeks, I became extremely disappointed in a company that initially seemed like a great place to work.
I found an interesting role, applied, and after three (lol) months HR sent me an email asking to chat. A few days later, we had our initial meeting, which was truly amazing. The lady told me about the role, asked some questions, and overall we had a really nice conversation.
They needed a web developer with some understanding of marketing, and I was happy to contribute. The next step was a home assignment.
Usually, I’m not a fan of such tests, but it’s still much better than stressful live coding interviews. Once I received the assignment, I was genuinely excited — I had to recreate a beautiful design with amazing animations. I love this kind of work, so I was happy to dive in.
I fully recreated the design, recorded a video with a short presentation, hosted the page (so non-tech folks could check it out too), shared the source code, and started waiting.
After a week, I received a message saying they had decided not to move forward at this time.
Okay, shit happens. I asked for feedback, since i spent some time on this test, and got ignored. Tried once more — still ghosted.
And that’s really shitty.
I have no idea whether they didn’t like my code, my video presentation, my name, or if the whole thing was just a fake job posting.
The job market sucks. But that doesn’t mean you have to make it worse.
